What makes good website copy?
When a prospective customer lands on your website, they have questions. If you can't answer them quickly, they'll lose interest and look elsewhere. For service-based businesses, effective website copy:
• communicates features — the services and deliverables you provide
• addresses pain points — how you resolve your customers' challenges
• highlights value — the results and benefits of working with you
Website copy can also convey:
• your unique selling points — why customers should choose you over a competitor
• social proof — what others think about your service
• quality indicators — third-party evidence of your expertise
All this builds trust, but it is the style and substance of your copy that makes all the difference. Website copywriters aim not only to inform readers but to build a lasting connection with them.
Pick up the pace
The design is approved. The developers are raring to go. But the copy isn't ready — and now everything is delayed.
Copy can be a major holdup for website projects. Selecting the right messaging, structuring content and optimising for search are steep learning curves, meaning even strong writers struggle to write about their own businesses.
For business owners, delays are frustrating — you just want your new website up and running. For agencies, delays are costly — especially when design revisions become necessary.
An in-depth briefing process helps me quickly identify what matters most to customers, while close collaboration with your developers makes the process run smoother.
The result is a better experience for everyone involved, with first drafts of site-wide copy typically shared within two weeks of our initial interview.
Step 1 - Interview
You receive a detailed questionnaire plus three copy samples. We discuss the answers and select the appropriate writing style over a one-hour video call.
Step 2 - Sample
I share a sample web page in the agreed style within three working days. You share your thoughts on the content, structure and tone of voice.
Step 3 - First draft
Within ten working days, your full-site copy is ready for review. You take a look and mark up the document with your feedback.
Step 4 - Feedback & amends
I work through your feedback and make any changes you have requested. Two rounds of amends are included as standard.
Schedule subject to timely information provision and feedback
